Domain Name Golf Course Marketing

A domain name is the location of an entity on the Internet. This is a subject I’m sure most of you in the golf industry are very familiar with and already consider this elementary, but I wanted to take the time to share it because even in today’s society, there are thousands of golf courses out there who still have not made a presence on the Internet. The first place you are going to start is with the domain name. I have also seen a lot of golf courses that have chosen poorly when it comes to their domain name.

One of the things you want to take into consideration is search engine optimization (SEO). The keywords and phrases like, “golf course”, “round of golf” or any other keywords or combination of keywords are what golfers might put in the search engine to find a golf course in your area. Make sure keywords are part of your domain name. For example, MMC® has two domain names for our golf site “www.golfmarketingmmc.com” and www.golfcourseconsultant.com”.  We do this because when people search for a “golf course consultant”, we want our website to pop up in Google’s listings and other search engines. For example, when people search the word “golf course”, they come up with as many as 10 to 15 million results from those two words. When you are creating a domain name, be specific to what the results of the search are going to be when golfers are looking for a golf course in your area.

There are a lot of things that are necessary for search engine optimization (SEO). The first step is just to start with a great domain name. When you are creating your domain name, make sure it is specific to the keywords people will be searching. For example, if I own a golf course in the Chicago area, the two search keywords are “golf and Chicago” and last is, the name of my golf course because these are keywords that golfers are going to type into Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.  There are millions or sometimes billions of results that will appear. So, in future blogs, I will teach you how to get better rankings through search engine optimization (SEO).

If you put key search words into your domain name, you will grow your golf course, the game and your golf career.
