Golf Course Marketing Hired Hand

According to marketingpower.com, hired hand is a salesperson who receives relatively little support or latitude from his or her sales manager. Hired hands tend to perform basically those tasks that are enumerated in the job description, as their managers perceive them as being unable or unwilling to take on additional responsibilities. Hired hands are the opposite of cadre salespeople.

Personally, I like the idea of hired hands. This is when you hire someone for menial tasks that are time-consuming and important but not the most important for the investment of your personal time.

Hired hands can be very helpful for accomplishing some of the things that I like to do when I am running a club. For example, when I like to get some information out into the business community and network with all of the local businesses, I can use hired hands to make the initial contact for me.

One of the things you can do with a hired hand is you can get them to deliver media-kits for you to local businesses and gather the information relative to the owner of the company or other key people of the organization like the management team.

Some of you are saying to yourselves, “We got it, but I can do that over the phone”.  Yes, you could but your time is better spent in a more valuable area of growing the golf course as opposed to doing that over the phone.  But by giving it that personal touch when you send a hired hand out to the location, it helps you build your brand and your credibility with the golfer.  Also, by doing this, you make the golfer feel important and valued, therefore, making them remember you.

If you are engaging local businesses, there is nothing better than sending a hired hand with your media-kit to sit down with golfers and just say hello and introduce your golf course. Start by saying things like, “ABC golf course is just a couple of miles from you, if you haven’t had a chance to play a round with us, I would love to invite your staff out for golf outing and we will even comp your golf cart rentals. By the way, here’s a media-kit on our golf course that you can take a look at.”

Just this couple of seconds could make a huge difference in getting golfers out on the golf course. There are hundreds of ways wherein you can use hired hands to go out and promote your golf course which will help you grow the game, your golf course and your golf career.
