List maintenance is maintaining your golf prospect and client list(s); keeping them updated and clean. This is a very crucial part of golf marketing because your marketing efforts are going to rely on the quality of your list. When people think of lists, they normally think of e-mail lists but in golf marketing, you should have numerous different lists. You should have a snail mail list, an e-mail list, a mobile list, etc.
When I say list, I’m talking about a list of prospects and their contact (current) information. You want to maintain these list so when you launch a golf marketing campaign, you will have current targets on your list. One of the most important things when it comes to e-mailing, especially if you are using a third-party vendor (server) or even using your own IP (Internet Protocol) address, you want to make sure you are not flagged as a SPAMMER and it is easy to become a spammer if you send out a lot of e-mails to an old list or expired list.
One of the things a lot of golf marketers say is, “you can always buy a list for such-and-such from so-and-so”. First of all, you are not supposed to buy a list for your email marketing because emails are an opt-in form of marketing which means, golfers have to give you permission before you send them emails. It is okay to send out one, two, three or even four unsolicited emails at a time, but when you start sending out numerous emails at one time, you can get flagged by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) as a spammer.
So always keep your golf prospect list and client list as clean as possible. Update them, take out the old contacts and make sure you don’t have a bunch of bad emails. The same thing goes for your mobile list, your snail mail list, etc.; you want to maintain them on a regular basis.
